THE THREE MOONS OF BIYANGDO - FEATURE-DOC - 2022
#newyonder #threemoonsofbiyangdo
Synopsis
On the volcanic island and South Korean province of Jeju resides an extraordinary community of sea women who live a unique way of life – one entirely dependent, and at one, with the ocean. These freedivers take only what they need from the sea, utilising it, and protecting it. Yet as the modern world accelerates, rapidly overtaking age-old traditions, will the traditional Haenyeo way of life be lost forever, or is there a way to preserve what’s left and learn from it too?
Follow the lives of Kyung-Mi, Geum-Mi and Jeong-Mi Moon, three sisters now in their sixties, Haenyeo "sea women", who take only what they need, one breath at a time.
I edited this feature length documentary (offline) in 2021 alongside director and CEO of Newyonder- Jon Cleave. I used Adobe Premiere for the first time on a project of this duration and we are very happy with the final product. I also cut the promotional material such as trailers and social media assets. The film was one of the launch titles for new yonder.earth and can be rented from their streaming services.
AN AFFABLE DEVIL - SHORT FILM (DRAMA) - 2019
Synopsis
Marie returns to her wealthy employer’s home to discover David, an unknown family relation, relaxing in the living room. She herself is anything but relaxed, trapped between pressing chores and the obligation to make small talk. On David’s gentle insistence, she relents, accepts coffee, and listens to him chatter. Becoming engrossed, she leans forward and in so doing glimpses something out of place. Confused, Marie stares and sees that David has horrifying intentions.
I edited this short drama alongside producer/directing duo Alex and Rich Newman for Zoutake Films. The film and its trailers were cut on Avid Media Composer. An Affable Devil had its premiere in the official selection of the London Independent Film Festival. It was subsequently shown at the British Independent Film Festival where it was nominated for Best Short Film, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress, and The British Lion Award.
NUREYEV - FEATURE-DOC - 2018
This striking and moving documentary traces the extraordinary life of Rudolf Nureyev, the most famous male dancer that transcended fame in the dance world to become a pop culture icon of his time. It charts his rise from humble beginnings, to his eventual defection to the West, an event that shocked the world. Blending never-before-seen footage, an original score by award-winning composer Alex Baranowski, and a spellbinding series of exclusive modern dance tableaux directed by Royal Ballet alumnus Russell Maliphant, Nureyev is a theatrical and cinematic experience like no other biopic.
I came onto this this production as a Assistant/Junior Editor- replacing archive, reworking scenes, cutting bonus material, trailers and delivering the final film. I worked alongside BAFTA nominated directors, Jacqui and David Morris for over a year finalising and finishing this feature documentary.
